Legend of St. Patrick
Saint Patrick died over 1500 years ago and although surrounded by myth the one sure fact is that he was not Irish at all.
At the age of 16 he was captured by one of the slave owning, cattle-raiding Celtic chieftains and dragged off to Ireland. After six years in slavery, herding sheep on the Slemish mountain in Antrim, St. Patrick was told in a dream where to find a ship on which to make his escape. He eventually returned to his family and trained for the priesthood in a monastery in England.
Later he returned to Ireland and travelled through the country converting people to Christianity. And so began the St.Patrick legends; some, no doubt, truer than others.
So let’s celebrate St. Patrick’s Day together!
