What’s a Hootenanny?
At its core, a “Hootenanny” is all about gathering for a good time filled with music, laughs, and plenty of energy! Originally a word for an informal get-together featuring folk singing, a Hootenanny has become a celebration of live music and good company – a night where everyone joins in on the fun. So, get ready for toe-tapping tunes, sing-alongs, and an electric atmosphere that’ll make this a St. Andrew’s to remember!
Who was St. Andrew?
Saint Andrew became the patron saint of Scotland in approximately the year AD 1000. St. Andrew‘s Day is celebrated by Scots around the world on the 30th November.
St Andrew was thought to have been an agile and hardy Galilean fisherman. Together with his elder brother Simon Peter (Saint Peter) they became followers of Jesus Christ. St. Andrew is said to have been responsible for spreading the tenets of the Christian religion throughout Asia Minor and Greece.
Tradition suggests that St. Andrew was put to death by the Romans in Patras, Southern Greece by being pinned to a diagonal shape cross. The diagonal shape of this cross is said to be the basis for the Cross of St. Andrew which appears on the Scottish Flag.
